Mississippi John Hurt“Master of Country Blues Guitar “

A music appreciation and guitar instruction class

Mississippi John Hurt is recognized as the most complex fingerpicker of all the country bluesmen. He was first recorded back in the 1920’s, rediscovered in the 1960’s, and was a sensation at the 1963 Newport Folk Festival. His gentle wry humor and songs have been loved by generations of music fans and guitar players.

If you are a folk/blues music fan you will enjoy listening to and hearing the stories behind his songs. If you are a guitar player, we will study his 3 finger guitar style, and learn several of his most famous songs, including his 2 guitar classics – Frankie and Candy Man. No requirements for appreciating John’s music, but a guitar and knowledge of chords and finger picking will be required for learning them.

Instructor Frank Delaney was stationed in the South in the 1960’s when John and many others of the old bluesmen were rediscovered, and he has been playing and researching John’s music for decades. Frank produced "The Backwater Blues Show" For KPBX for 7 years, has performed at coffeehouses, clubs, and festivals,  and is the webmaster for www.msjohnhurtmuseum.com .
