Cowboy Dan

          Frank Delaney 7/73

When I was a boy I loved cowboy movies and gun fights in the street. I loved the old classic movies and tv series; Shane, High Noon, Palladin, Wanted Dead or Alive.

Cowboy Dan, he was an outlaw man, wore double crossed guns, he shot with either hand,

A                                                                      E

he had a 12 gauge shotgun and a Mexican knife, and you called him "Sir" if you valued your life,

          B7                                                                E

he was faster than lightning and tougher than nails - and he'd never seen the inside of a stinkin' jail.

Twenty seven men had tried to gun him down, now there's 27 coffins planted down in the ground,

he was wanted by the law in almost every state, noone was really anxious to be number 28,

he said "I'm worth ten thousand dollars, either dead or alive,

and if you'd like to be a rich man - just step up here and try ..."

There was a U.S. Marshall thought he'd try his hand, of riddin' the country of that evil Cowboy Dan,

they met in Waco, Texas, in the summer heat, and faced each other on a lonesome, dusty street,

and when the shootin was over and the air was still -

that marshall got a free ride on a horse to Boot Hill.

Now Cowboy Dan, he is dead and gone, he died from natural causes, without his boots on,

nobody ever caught him and he died in his bed, and with his dying breath these were the words he said,

"I've always been an outlaw, and I'm proud that I am,

so when you're talkin' about badmen - don't forget - Old Cowboy Dan."
