Big ROM

(Sung to the melody of "Big John" (Mining song by Jimmy Dean))

                                                            (C) 1993 Written by Frank Delaney

Fingerpicked in the key of D

A Computer Song that came to me while jogging along High Drive. This song is obsolete now just like the computers it refers to.

1st verse

(D) Every morning at the office you'd see when you arrived,

This Big (G) Pentium box running near 65,

(A7th) 32 meg RAM, 10 gig hard disk,

and everybody knew you didn't give no lip,

(D)to Big ROM...

2nd verse

Nobody seemed to know where ROM called home,

it seemed to work off the network, standing all alone,

It processed all day, and part of the night,

and if you spoke at all, you just said "Byte !",

to Big ROM...

G             A7         D

(Big Rom, Big Rom, Big Bad Rom)

3rd verse

People talked of a contest down in New Orleans, where they ran some tests from PC magazine,

and a crashing benchmark from that giant RAM, sent a wuss PS/2 to the promised land,

Big ROM... (Big Rom, Big Rom, Big Bad Rom)

4th verse

Then came the problem way out on the net, when the fileserver crashed, users started to fret,

programs started freezing, operators cryin', and everybody thought it was the end of the line,

'cept ROM...

5th verse

From out of nowhere, ROM jumped in place of that server, sayin' "have no fear - I'm your SFT Mirror",

and with a giant roar, ROM gave a mighty shove, and the users cried out "We're re-connected - we're back up !!!",

Big ROM...

(Big Rom, Big Rom, Big Bad Rom)

6th verse

Well they never re-used that worthless server, they gave it to accounting, said "Here, You geeks deserve 'er",

now at the heart of our network, known throughout the Lan, keepin' everyone going, stands one hell of a Ram,

Big ROM...

(Big Rom, Big Rom, Big Bad Rom)
